I saw your comments on "lost" recordings, including the 1981 LP "The Fly By Night String Band." I was a member of that now long-defunct band, and still have a stash of the LPs, if anyone would like one. If we can find the original master, maybe we'll look into reissuing it on CD.

Good to hear that there's a stash of these somewhere, Kevin. My guess is that the master is still in Chas Eller's archives up here in Vermont. I'll poke around a bit and see if we can come up with it.
Best wishes,

Thanks for the offer but I have the CD myself. I bought it when one showed up on a sales table at a workshop. But I think there are few or none left now of the first CD and I think they should make more.

Cool as Grits' first cassette was called "We Like 'Em Hot" and that had Ken Inue on banjo. The second, "Still Life with Cornbread" had Mike Fleck on banjo. David is playing with a group called The Forge Mountain Diggers and the'll be releasing a new CD at the Mt Airy fiddlers' Convention this June.
Anyone remember recordings that might include my brother Matthew Oppenheimer. He played with Fly By Night String Band, I believe and was part of the Old Time Music Project at the Eagle Tavern in NYC. I would really love to find some of his stuff.
thanks!
